Our Clients Dannelle and Steve presented The Gritty Team with a unique project, a Pontiac G8 GXP. This unicorn was sitting under a car cover in their garage for a few years. Needless to say time, 4 cats, and neglect took its took on the exterior. So upon our inspection, we noticed marring, fading, holograms, and scratches over nearly 90% of the exterior.
We decon shampooed the exterior, then followed it with hand washing and a clay process along with washing it again with a pressure washer. Since this vehicle is out of production along with Pontiac we took a more purposeful methodical approach, we began with paint correction Stage 1.
Our aim was to gradually remove the imperfections with less aggressive means but still gaining the same results. We noticed that the imperfections were gradually being reduced. So, moved onto Stage 2 and of course the scratches were slowly being removed. It took several passes and compound focusing on problematic areas such as the drivers side rear panel and the hood.
Once we began with Stage 3 which was paint enhancement in this case since approximately 80% of the imperfections were removed then the paint was appearing richer and deeper. The best part is Dannelle had no idea that silver flakes were embedded in the paint.
Once we reached a point where the paint was restored and corrected then we washed it again and applied a high gloss polish in other words jeweling and glazing the paint. It came out looking like a black pearl.
Of course, we took it a step further by ceramic coating the wheel faces, the windshield, the headlights, side mirrors and taillights. When it comes to muscle cars of this rarity we always go above and beyond to ensure that we did our absolute best in restoration and protection.
That was the 1st and most critical part of this unicorn project. The 2nd part was detailing the interior. The interior was in fantastic shape, it was like sitting in a time capsule. So, we vacuumed and shampooed the carpets and floor mats, used leather restorative products on the upholstery, cleaned the windows along with the trunk. Since, the G8 was sitting for a long while, we eliminated that "old stale cabin air smell" and just brought a fresh new car smell into the interior.
This 5 day project will go in the record books as one of favorite projects especially since Dannelle and Steve collectively drove 4 hours total in order to get this project completed. That is very flattering and just gives us the incentive to do more and to look forward to restoring and detailing cool vehicles like this Pontiac G8 GXP.
We'll definitely be detailing their entire families vehicles in the near future as Dannelle stated.
This unicorn looks bad ass now!
Thanks for letting us have the honor of restoring it!
